Today's Pic of the Day: A Pic of Day!

One of Lisa's college roommates is in town for a conference this weekend, and the girls had a lot of fun playing with her this morning!

My Little Royal Helper

One of Lisa's college roommates is staying with us for the weekend, and Abby helped me get the guestroom (aka the playroom) ready for her visit, and she made sure that crown stayed in place the whole time!

My Morning with Abby

I've said this already, but I'm really enjoying my mornings alone with Abby!

Today we raked some leaves...
...and played with blocks!

Still trying...

For the actual picture of the day, I'm going with something that will almost certainly embarrass Abigail later in life (this is one of the more amusing perks of parenthood!).

Anyway, we are STILL trying to get this girl to use the potty...
Some days it seems like it's taking forever (comparatively, her sisters were both potty-trained in no time), but she'll get there, eventually. And in the meantime, at least she's smiling!

Rock the Lakes

The girls went downtown yesterday afternoon and played games at the outdoor carnival-like thing set up for Rock the Lakes (the Billy Graham event in town this weekend).

Think they had fun?

(My four girls sure are pretty!)

Pajama-time!

Trinity's annual camp-out was last night; here were the girls, all set to go in their PJs!
(yeah, this is from yesterday, but nobody got much sleep during last night's wild rainstorm, so we're all pretty wiped out and aren't likely to be taking many pictures today!)

The Family Fashionista

Today's a dress-down day at school:
Not much I can add to that!

Here's an idea...

I'll admit it: I'm not great at updating this blog, especially when we get back from trips with hundreds of pictures to go through. The thought of editing so many pictures and choosing the best ones for this space often seems overwhelming.

I think it'd be a fun change of pace, then to try a little project here. Now that school is in full swing and our trips will be fewer and further between (and shorter), huge posts I feel like I should be working on won't be looming over my head quite so often anymore; our days will consist of routine and repetition, but that doesn't mean we won't want you to see what our girls are up to.

What I want to do, then, is simple: I want to take at least one picture a day to post here. That's it. I can't promise it will include all three girls (or any of them -- Lisa and I occasionally do interesting things, too!), but I can promise it will be about our lives. I can't promise there will be more than one (like today), but I can promise to try to make it at least one. I can't promise to add much commentary, but I can promise to try to take pictures that tell a story, that say something about our days together.

(Also, if you're visiting the actual blog, you'll notice I gave it a bit of an overhaul with one of Blogger's fancy new "dynamic" themes. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping the change of scenery will help motivate me in this new undertaking!)

Some pictures from today, then:

I'm loving getting time in the mornings to spend one-on-one with Abby, and if her mood during her bath this morning was any indication, she is too!
Abby is becoming quite the little artist!
(she called this one "Faces")

Most days, when we pick up Rebekah from preschool, we stay at school and play on the playground for a while!
(this practice will end pretty quickly when the cold weather hits, but for now, it is a good time for all!)

And there you have it. I'm missing one girl (who was at school all day), but I'm over my quota of one, so I'm going to call it a successful first day!

See you tomorrow!

Summer Wrap-Up Part 2: September

So, with August in the books and September on its way out, here's a look at what we've been up to this month.

We took yet another trip to Columbus, this time for something really important: football!

(this blog isn't called "Buffalo Buckeyes" for nothing!)

Papa Jon and I went to the game, while the girls stayed home doing things like this:

On the way out of town, we stopped to see the world's largest basket:

And that pretty much concluded our summer.

Before we knew what happened, Bethany started school:

(first grade!)

and then Rebekah started school:

and Abigail continued her tradition of being very upset that she's not going to school yet:

And there you have it: a whirlwind tour of our crazy summer!

Summer Wrap-Up Part 1: August

It's no secret I was not great at maintaining this blog over the summer. At this point, a full-on post for everything I would have wanted to post about is just not going to happen, so in two posts, I'm going to try to touch on all the major happenings. Buckle up!

As it is with summer months, a lot happened in August:

Hayden turned 1:

(cake!)

We went to the fair:

(Abby was unimpressed and not particularly pleased)

We camped with Papa Jon & Grandma Miriam:

(actual camping not pictured)

We spent a week in Columbus at Papa Jon & Grandma Miriam's, where we biked:

and got a bear from Build-a-Bear:

and went to COSI:

and went to the Columbus Zoo:

and took in an outdoor movie:

Back in Buffalo, we took in a baseball game:

and of course, we went swimming:

And that was our August. Wish I'd had/taken more time to post these things as they happened, but sometimes it just doesn't get done. (If you want to see more pictures, shoot me an email, and I can give you the link to the album.)

Up next: September!

The Lost Art of Conversation

Some recent amusing conversations with our girls, for your enjoyment!

First, Lisa learns something about animals:

Lisa: What did you learn in school today?
Rebekah: I learned about animals.
Lisa: Really? What did you learn about animals?
Rebekah: That elephants can stand on their heads, and giraffes can sit on their butts.

And Abby makes her point:

Lisa: Did you have fun today?
Abby: Yeah.
Lisa: Did you get to play on the playground?
Abby: Yeah.
Lisa: Did you get to stay a long time?
Abby: Yeah.
Lisa: Did you go on the swings?
Abby: Yeah.
Lisa: (sensing a theme in the conversation) Did you throw stones?
Abby: NO!!! Bethany threw the stones!!

Our girls are some funny little people, that's for sure!

Back to School!

So I'm skipping over some recent events by posting this, but I'll go back and post those photos soon, I promise!

Bethany started first grade today! How crazy is that?!

She has always loved school, so to say she was excited for the new school year would be something of an understatement:

We spent a little while out on the porch before the bus came, but we were out early & long enough that Beth got bored and we went back inside. The next few minutes were spent doing things like this:

And before we knew it, it was actually almost time for the bus to arrive.

(Lisa walking Beth out to the bus -- pretty sure this is going to be a tradition that lasts way beyond the age the girls find this embarrassing)

(on the bus & ready to go!)

(if you look closely, you can see her head in the first window...)

Bethany arrived home after a long first day, and promptly did this:

And then this:

And there she remains as I post this. Those first few days are always the longest!

All reports (from Aunt Sarah and a friend who was at school this morning) indicate that our (no longer so) little girl had a great first day!
